My Name is Khan

I have always liked Srk. To me, he's the best! The only reason I started disliking him from some time now that he seems to be so much of a money minded person. Being the best, he can always maintain a standard and not indulge in things like performing at someone's marriage. Such things apart, he was stupendous is the movie.

Questions of religious and national identity, of the sense of right and wrong, But what triumphs over all the complexities unfolding in a post 9/11 America is Rizwan Khan and his essential goodness that tells you unwaveringly – his name is Khan and he is not a terrorist.

Director Karan Johar is in unfamiliar territory here. No candy floss romance, no sweet no honeyed words, things, nobody breaking into song. Just the super intelligent Rizwan, who has Asperger’s Syndrome, a form of autism, his halting voice with his inability to communicate, and his many relationships – with his mother, his brother, and yes, Mandira, and her son Sam. I personally never thought that Karan could pull it off so well!! Move over Rahul, Rizwan is here. Shah Rukh makes the transition from the eternal romantic to the intense Rizwan who finds love and loses it. If Shah Rukh lives and breathes Rizwan in what is one of his finest roles, Kajol as Mandira, the vivacious single mother, is also good – as always. The chemistry between them if not always crackling, then heartwarming. All credit to Karan Johar for that.

Plenty of great one liners. When he is refused entry into a presidential fundraiser for the poor in Africa that is only for Christians, he leaves behind $500 saying: ‘This if for those who are not Christians in Africa.’ The music by Shankar Ehsaan Loy is superb as always!

My Name Is Khan will prove to be a landmark film in the careers of Karan Johar, Shah Rukh Khan and of course Kajol. It’s a film with a strong message and is yet very entertaining at the same time. The film actually delivers more than one expected it to.

A Book, A Film and the controversy!!

I was scrolling through the channels and I saw a news flash of “3 idiots” on “Aaj tak”. Out of my curiosity, I stopped by to see that the producer of the movie, vidhu vinod chopra made it to the headlines. In an interview with the media, he shouted out on the media for relating 3 idiots with Chetan Bhagat’s novel. Followed by his rage, Aamir Khan pointed to the media and said, “you guys are being used and so are we!!” what a statement!!! How can they trying befool people so easily!!

Readership of five point someone is more than 5lakhs. Everyone who will watch the movie cannot do anything but reconnect with the novel. No doubts, movie is great!! But work of Chetan Bhagat cannot be ignored and should be given the due respect.

Pre-release, the makers made press statements like the movie is only ‘very loosely’, ‘2%-5% inspired by the book’. But the movie portrays 70% of the books. The plot line was same. People meet at ragging, the first class starts with definition of machine, the friends separate, Alok’s paralyzed father, Alok (Raju) moves with Venkat (Chatur), Ryan (Rancho) helps Alok’s father, Alok rejoins group etc etc. From Alok (Raju) jumping to stealing the papers and calling out from Cherian (Virus’) office – the book came alive on screen. It cannot be a coincidence.

I seriously think that Chetan Bhagat should be given the credit he deserves and vidhu vinod chopra and the team of the “idiots” should definitely apologize for the issue. If they are not ready to give the credit, then Chetan Bhagat should take the legal action against the team!!
