While Driving back home...
Waiting on a traffic signal
I heard a knock
and looked out of window
To find a small girl!
Her hair out of place...
Her clothes begrimedThey were all tattered
She was fagged out,
incapacitated eyes...
Hands stretched open,
She pointed towards her tummy...
"Don't give her money!!"
My friend warned
She didn't even care
while I was stunned
I wanted to help
but I stopped myself
To know the sheer reality
of the beggary business
Abducting kids
to earn income
Even cutting out their limbs
to depict helplessness!
Each time I see
A child yearning for a rupee
I see in him
A child longing for escape
An escape from beggary...
to a world where
He can study, eat,
And most importantly,
Live.........!

Ohhh.. I cried while reading..
seriously beautifully written :]
It hurts to see kids begging. Came from your heart
Well said..
Yesterday while traveling from train, one blind lady came into gents 1st class coach and started begging. After she completed her 1 round, she stood near the gate and removed her mobile and started talking. I was stunned. If a person can afford a mobile, why beg in first place.
This is a common scene in the major cities, talking of Mumbai, I face this everyday. The government, the police, wipe out everything from the main roads and signals. How do they not manage to rehabilitate these poor kids is the question worth millions! Corruption?
Very beautiful poetry... Scenes from Madur Bhandarkar's Traffic Signal fashed infront of me... very meaningful work!
It's pitiful to see such kids out on the streets.
Nice poetry.
I have always thought that one should never give them money.Give them something to eat.Money won't be in their hands .
take care
so what r u doing to curb the menace ma'am? to help them escape?
I'm so torn about this issue. You must read A Fine Balance..
woah that was a splendid writing!!! marvelous...:)
You should had submitted the same for blogaton...:)
@chocolatelover didn't mean to make you cry but this act is truly disgraceful.
@Savira yes... its truly a pain to see them in such condition!
@Yogesh very true. I have heard of such cases alot of times. I think they are happy making the easy money and so they choose begging over working.
@Nehha I dont think it is a very easy thing to wipe them out and rehabiliate them. Most of them are content doing it and do not want to work hard for their money.
@Karan Thanks :)
@D2 Thanks
@Rainboy If you try this, You won't be successful alot of times. They do not want food or anything. They want cash!
@rahul it is tough to rehabiliate them but if people start taking the initiative and working for it, It could be of some help.
@republicofchic I am glad that people feel for it. Thanks for supporting!
@Siddhesh Thanks. I wanted to be a part of blog a ton-10 but couldn't. I was busy with something so couldn't post it :(
